Tour to the rock paintings of Astuvansalmi
Experience the magnificent nature of Lake Saimaa and the historic tourist sites on its shores: Astuvansalmi rock paintings, Kallioniemi Villa and Pien-Toijola Open-Air Museum.
The rock paintings of Astuvansalmi, the largest painting complex in the Nordic countries, are well worth experiencing. The rock paintings are located by the water, so on this trip you can experience the paintings from the side of the water. Around 80 painted images have been found on the cliffs of Astuvansalmi. The most common patterns are deer, man and boat, and there is also some opaque red colour on the rock. Join us to see how many pictures you can find. We travel to the rock paintings on the Aino boat through the most beautiful landscapes of Lake Saimaa.
During the tour you will have the opportunity to enjoy lunch at Restaurant Kallioniemi, and explore the cultural and historical environment of a summer cottage built by E. N. Setälä. We will also visit the Pien-Toijola Open-Air Museum, a nationally significant peasant cultural environment. There are also tourist attractions along the route: Kyyhkylä Wellbeing Resort and Hotel Heimari, which allow you to stay longer on the shores of Lake Saimaa. Check out our travel tips!
